Rules systems for play and progress. When you choose, do you divide the infinite?

There has always been something broken about the economy, but this has not always been so absolutely obvious. Today we have more data, more research, more math, more anecdotes, more votes. Those who would impede progress point to how much worse it has been. No doubt. But every person who dies or suffers unnecessarily is more than a statistic. If your child dies of cancer they didn't need to get, cancer they got because perhaps it was more profitable to allow them to get it, how reassuring is it that some things about our economic system are better than they used to be? What matters to you is that your child died of cancer and they didn't need to get it, and there are people in your society calling this a necessary evil when it isn't necessary.
